Anna Mae (Kajer) Scharmann passed away peacefully in her home on December 9, 2018 in Manteca, CA surrounded by her family. She was born in Iowa to Anton and Francis Kajer on June 11, 1935.  Her family moved to Manteca at a young age, and she graduated from Manteca High School in 1953. She met the love of her life, Robert Scharmann, in high school and enjoyed 62 years of marriage with him before his passing in 2016.

She worked as a telephone operator for twenty-nine years and enjoyed a wonderful retirement traveling with her husband, family, and great travel companions. She spent countless hours establishing and organizing a scholarship program through the Bounders United motorhome club. She was an incredibly dedicated fan of the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors and talked about them into her final moments. She enjoyed spending time knitting and crocheting with her neighbor and close friend, Donna.

She will be remembered for the great sense of pride she took in what she considered to be her greatest accomplishment—her family. She rarely missed an opportunity to watch her grandkids in any activity they were involved in, traveling many miles to show her support. She raised her five children and thirteen grandchildren with a strong work ethic, unbreakable devotion to the Giants, love for camping and Pinecrest Lake, strength and stubbornness, and an absolutely amazing sense of family. She astonished everyone around her with how quick she was to learn new technology, often teaching her kids and grandkids new things about iPhones and social media. Her motto was “If anyone is able to do it, I can.”

Anna Mae is survived by her children, Bob and Judi Scharmann, Keri and Mike Harnden, Mike and Carolyn Scharmann, Gary and Sherry Scharmann, and Stacey and Jim Koch; grandchildren, Melissa Harnden, Bobby and Nicole Scharmann, Ricky Scharmann, Brian and Rebecca Scharmann, Melanie Harnden, Billy and Ashlie Scharmann, Scott and Andrea Scharmann, Donny and Kayla Scharmann, Jeremy and Jessica Scharmann, Heather and Josh Anderson, Josh and Acelyn Scharmann, Ryan Thomas, and Carson Koch; great-grandchildren Bobby, Hadley, Chandler, Addilyn, and Jack. She is also survived by a large extended family.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the VFW Veterans Center, at 580 Moffat Blvd, in Manteca from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Bounders United Scholarship Fund, 44628 Adobe Dr., Hemet, CA 92544.
