Carol Basquez, 69, entered into rest on Jan. 31, 2011 after succumbing to her battle with pancreatic cancer in Manteca, California. She was born on Jan. 15, 1942 in Chillicothe, Ohio. Rita joins her father in heaven, Donald Edgington, and her sons Tony Wilson and Todd Cronkite.

Mrs. Basquez is survived by her husband of 19 years, Xavier Basquez. Her mother is Hazel Edgington of Southern California. Her children are Sheila Bulen and husband Roy of Manteca, James Cronkite and wife Jean of North Carolina, and Timothy and significant other Tom Triplett of Oregon.Her siblings Ron and wife Teri Edgington, Sondra Germany, Dee Dee and husband Tony Simental, all of Southern California. She was truly blessed by her many grandchildren; Rocky and wife Courtney, Sonny and wife Shelby, Samantha, Mo-Mo, Amanda, Sarah, Sammy, Josh, Megan, Ryan, Breanna, Dawson, Jo-Jo and Zeya.

Rita was a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, for over 6 years and previously of Sacramento for over 26 years. Just recently Rita moved to Manteca to be closer to her family. She retired after 38 years of service as an LVN nurse through Kaiser – Santa Clara and Sacramento. She loved playing golf, visiting local casinos, making jewelry, and especially socializing and meeting new people. In her younger years Rita enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, skiing, motorcycle riding, and just being outdoors. Traveling with Rita was always energetic and adventurous; one of her most favorite destinations was Hawaii. She loved family get-togethers. She always loved and treated her family members as if they were her one and only favorite. She had a heart that was full of love and compassion for anyone she crossed. She had a smile that would light up the room followed by a contagious laugh that was full of life. Rita will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, her zest for life, and her love that she gave to others.

Mrs. Basquez’s services are being handled by P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. A memorial celebration will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at 1: 30 p.m. held at P.L. Fry 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.
