Daniel Emory Sickler, 59, of Medford, passed away Dec. 6, 2008 at RVMC. Arrangements were handled by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.
Daniel was born in San Francisco on May 13, 1949. He was one of six siblings born to Emory and Mary (Hannan) Sickler. The family moved to Manteca when he was 10 years old. He attended Manteca High School, during which time he worked several jobs and played sports. Once he graduated high school, he joined the Navy. He served overseas for two years and thereafter in the Naval Reserves. After his service he returned to Manteca, where he attended college and began dating Connie O’Brien. They were married April 15, 1972, and later in the year Dan transferred to Humboldt State College. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Wood Science.
In June of 1975, Dan and Connie moved to Rocklin, Calif., when Dan began his career in the wood industry. Dan and his family lived in California until 1990, at which time he, Connie and their four children moved to Springfield, Ore. Dan worked there for eight years until he transferred to Medford, Ore. He worked in the wood industry continuously for 34 years where he was well respected for his work ethic and integrity. He was forced to retire in August of 2008 after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
Dan defied odds but finally lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 6, 2008, in Medford. His family was at his side when he passed. As he challenged cancer he made tremendous sacrifices so he would have more time with his loved ones. He shared a wonderful relationship with the Lord and is once and for all with his Father. He is survived by the love of his life, Connie; his four children, Nathan, Tim, Laura and Ellen and their spouses, DeAnna, Kristin and Ryan, respectively. Dan also had two grandchildren, Caleb and Micah. Dan will be missed by all who knew him. For those who had the privilege of knowing Dan, their lives were deeply touched; he was a gentle spirit, filled with kindness and love. In his final moments he found the strength to tell his wife and children how blessed he felt to have such a beautiful family and softly said, “Goodbye.”
A private burial service was held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, and a Celebration of Life is took place Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at The Rock Family Worship Center, 2330 N. Pacific Hwy., Medford, OR. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Healing Rooms Ministries of Medford Oregon, 843 E. Main Street, Suite 301.
