Flavio R. Apodaca, 87, died May 7, 2009 in Manteca surrounded by his loving family.

Flavio was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Nellie (Lita) Apodaca. He also joins his son Floyd Apodaca Jr. in heaven as well as his siblings; Lala DeSoza, Alvina Tafoya, Daniel Apodaca, and Rudy Apodaca.

Mr. Apodaca was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, on May 12, 1921 and was a resident of Manteca for 38 years. Mr. Apodaca was retired from Sharpe Army Depot where he worked for 35 years, as a supervisor and received several Commendations Awards for his exceptional performance.

He was very proud to be a World War II veteran (US Army) where he served in a rifle company of the 104th Infantry Division, known as the Timberwolves in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

He loved to golf and was a member of the Mexican American Golf Association where he excelled and earned multiple trophies which he proudly displayed at home.

With Flavio family was always number one in his life. He loved to play the guitar and sing with his wife and family at all family gatherings. He also loved to travel and visit all of his family members near and far, taking his guitar with him.

He is survived by his children, Priscilla Bunting of Manteca, Beatice Rios of Stockton, Inez Geiger of Manteca, and Sammy Apodaca of Manteca. His grandchildren are Rita Alonzo of French Camp, Edie Rios of Manteca, Teresa Rodesillas of French Camp, Michael Rios of Stockton, Evamarie Carrillo of Stockton, Eric Rios of Stockton, Regina Apodaca of Texas, Renee Apodaca of Manteca, Lita Calyen of Texas, Sonny Geiger of Manteca, Alina Apodaca of Lodi, Sammy Apodaca Jr. of Brawley, Joey Apodaca of Stockton, Eddie Apodaca of Stockton. His siblings are Libby Garcia of Phoenix, Josie Gallegos of Phoenix, Rosenda Armillo of Belen, NM, Dolly Gonzales of Phoenix. His great-grandchildren are Johnny Alonzo, Melissa Melendez, Alicia Alonzo, Michael Rios, Lisa Rios, Wilbur Rodesillas, Vanessa Rios, Michael Rios Jr., Christopher Rios, Patricia Rios, Angela Carrillo, Adrina Carrillo, Mariah Carrillo, Kirk Carrillo Jr., Noah Geiger, Maura Ambriz, Nina Ambriz, Melisa Anaya, Jessica Anaya, Andrea Anaya, Veronica Anaya, Angelique Maestas, and Angelo Calyen. He was also blessed by two great-great grandchildren; Victor Alonzo and Lexie Melendez.  

A visitation will be held on Wednesday May 13,  from 1 to 5 p.m. A special tribute will be held the same day at 2 p.m. both to take place at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home 290 N. Union Rd. Manteca. A Rosary Mass will be held on Thursday May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 505 E. North St. Manteca. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery-Stockton, Ca.
