Retired owner “Joannie” of “Banta Inn”, Joan Carol Costa, 60, entered into rest on Jan. 22, 2011, in Tracy, California.  She was born on June 8, 1950, in Oakland, California.  She joins her parents, Richard and Lorraine Rosenquist, in heaven.  Mrs. Costa is survived by her husband, Tom Costa of Tracy.  

 Joan was a pom-pom girl who attended Amador High School in Pleasanton, CA and graduated in 1968.   

 Her children are Jamie Castro (Eric) of Banta, Jessica Steed (Matt) of North Carolina, and Justin Wing (Jennifer) of Nevada.  She has three step-children: Brandon Costa of Manteca, Brent Costa (Trisha) of Mt. House and Brooke Costa of Stockton.  Joan was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 3 step-grandsons.  She has two siblings: Rick Rosenquist (Sally) of Oak Run and Sally Fowler of Oak Run.  In addition, her in-laws, Johnnie & Josie Costa of Tracy.  Joan also had numerous sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews.   

 Joan was a resident of the San Joaquin Valley for over 43 years.  She was the owner and operator of the “Banta Inn” for 27 years where she was well respected and loved by all.  Joan finally retired just four years ago to enjoy her life with her family, friends and golfing.  

 She was a member of the Lakeside Chapel of Tracy, Soroptimist International of Tracy, the Tracy Moose Lodge and a member of the Pink Ladies of Tracy-Sutter Memorial Hospital.  She was a past school board member of the Mt. House School District for 7 years, past elected board member of the Byron Bethany Irrigation District for 4 years and the chairman of the Bowlers League of Tracy.  

 Joan loved trips to Yosemite National Park and Jackson Rancheria.  She enjoyed a sunny, fall, spring, summer or winter day on the golf course, music, decoration and tasting new food and wine.  She was an avid card player and played dice every Thursday for over 20 years with her close friends.  Joan will be remembered for her zest for life and her unconditional love that she had for her family and friends.  She will be truly missed by all.

 In honor of Joan, a Memorial Visitation with a guest book will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 5p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, Manteca.  The family will be receiving close friends and family at a memorial eulogy  to be held that same day at Chez Shari’s at 1 p.m. 305 N. Union Road, Manteca.   

 In lieu of flowers, Joan has requested donations to be sent to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY  10004 or the VFW, 1960 N. Tracy Blvd., Tracy, CA 95376.  An online guest book is available at www.frymemorialchapel.com.
