Joel Selvin Hobbs, Sr., 83, of Ripon California, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior, March 2, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Fort Valley, Georgia, on January 15, 1934.
   He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Monk Hobbs, and children;  Selvin Hobbs (Laura) of Allen, TX, Joy Reed (Bob) of Modesto, CA, Pamela Fitzgerald of Plano, TX, and Vincent Hobbs (Stephanie) of Ripon, CA.
 He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Joel has one brother, Dr. Victor Hugo Hobbs (Rebecca), of Milledgeville, Georgia.
   Joel Selvin Hobbs, Sr., is preceded in death by his parents, Joel Vincent Hobbs and Connie Joyner Hobbs, of Fort Valley, GA. Joel began his 45-year career at Inland Container in Macon, Georgia, in 1952.   After a job  promotion, Joel and his family moved to Fremont, CA in 1973. After retiring from Inland Container, he worked at Fremont Bank as a courier for eight years, where he thrived on meeting new people and sharing his own brand of humor. After he retired from Fremont Bank, he moved to Ripon, CA, in 2012, to be near his family. Joel loved family gatherings, football, making people laugh, spending time in the word, and texting with his family. Special thanks to Community Hospice for their loving care in Joel’s last days.
   Deegan Memorial Chapel in Ripon is in charge of final arrangements. The viewing will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel, 111 S. Palm Ave., Ripon.  The funeral will be Wednesday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at Ripon Grace Church, 734 W. Main St., Ripon. Private family graveside service will be at Ripon Cemetery.
