John Rocha Mendes, 94, entered into rest on January 12, 2017 in Tracy, CA. He was born on June 8,
1922 in Ripon, CA to the late Frank and Etelvina Mendes. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Mendes.
  Mr. Mendes is survived by his three children Kathryn Walsh husband Mike, Diane McKinley and Nancy Coughran husband Allan. He was blessed with four grandchildren Justin Lease, Kimberly Olofsen, Ryan Coughran and Stephanie Alexander as well as four great-grandchildren William and Jack Alexander, and Viven and Ella Olofsen. In addition, John is survived by his two siblings Frank
Rocha Mendes and Laura Rothlin.
  John was a 94 year resident of Manteca graduating from Manteca High. He was a dairy farmer for most of his life owning and operating JR Mendes Dairy. John taught his children strong work ethics, good character and most importantly integrity. He was a member of the
MRPS Hall, Historical Society, The Sonoma Trail Blazers and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where he
was involved with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed team calf-roping, winemaking and going on
trail rides all over Northern California. He was a natural craftsman, taking pride in his metal and woodworking projects. John will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his generous spirit and his love of family. He will be deeply missed.
  P.L .Fry is honored to serve the Mendes family. Visitation will be on Sunday January 22, 2017, 1pm-4pm followed by a rosary/vigil at 4pm held at P.L .Fry & Son Chapel, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca,
CA. A Mass will be on Monday January 23, 2017 at 11am held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 525 E.
North St., Manteca, CA. He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
