Marguerite (Margo) was called to Heaven on Friday, November 26th, after a lengthy illness at age 81.  
   She was preceded in death by her mother and adoptive father, Fred and Mary Cortez-Bargiachi, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and her lifelong friend, Dr. David Gifford.  She is survived by numerous cousins in Washington, Stockton, Manteca, and Palm Springs. She is also survived by two goddaughters, Cindy Stone and Angela Scatena, godson Ryan Birch, and Dr. Gifford’s children, Jennifer Groppe (Jeff) and their children Erin, Shannon, and Christopher Gifford (Mary) their children Skyler, Gage.
   Margo attended Manteca High School and after graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, and College of the Holy Names in Oakland, Margo devoted her life to educating children. She later received her Administrative Credential at Sacramento State University. During her 40 years with Stockton Unified, she held the positions of, teacher at King  Elementary, Spanish Teacher at Hamilton Junior High, Ethnic Studies Coordinator for Taylor Elementary, Assistant Principal at John Marshall Jr. High, Fremont Jr. High, and Franklin High.  Margo loved life. She was very close to her family, especially her mother, father, aunt Adele, and uncle Roy. She never lost contact with her five close college friends, and enjoyed dancing, cooking for friends, and travelling with her close girlfriends, cousins, and the Gifford family. Her devotion to the Catholic Church continued even through her illness.
   Family and friends would like to thank Aurora and Mari (her home caregivers), Lola (her loving and devoted housekeeper) and Aroona and Nadya at Oakmont Retirement and Senior Care for their kindness and quality care.
   Arrangements are being coordinated by P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home in Manteca.  Viewing will be Tuesday, December 7, 2021 4p.m. to 7p.m. at P.L. Fry and Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Rd., Manteca, CA.
   Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 8th, with mass following at 11:00, both at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 2544 Plymouth Rd., Stockton. She will be laid to rest privately at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Holy Names University, 93500 Mountain Blvd., Oakland, CA, 94619 or St. Mary's High School, 5648 N. El Dorado St., Stockton, CA 95207.
