Mom asks for help to keep killer in prison

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
I am Doris Morgan, mother of Michael McDonald, who was murdered in 1983 along with a girl he only knew for six weeks. This was to be only the third time he had seen her, when her ex-boyfriend, William Walter Nichols killed them both on my son’s front porch.

I want to thank all of you who have responded to the articles by asking to sign or help get signatures on a petition  and write a letter. A letter to Ironwood State Prison also really helps! I talked to the person in charge of Nichols’ file at the prison this morning and she said she had already received letters from Nichols family and friends for his release! We have confronted this every time we have been to a parole hearing. Now that they are letting so many felons out, it really scares me that he will get out!

At a parole hearing Nichols told us he was a good guy! A person on the parole board asked him, “why then did you murder two people and almost kill three more?” His excuse was, “I had been working two jobs, taking no dose pills, and had two small cocktails that come in the small bottles but I wasn’t drunk!”

So if he gets out, that is all it will take for him to kill again. This man is like a time bomb ready to go off!

When the police finally ran him over and caught him that night, the policemen told him....you killed two people and when they said my son’s name, he said, “at least I did something right.” My son had never met this man!

Thanks again to all you caring people out there who have called and thank you, Dennis Wyatt and Steve Catalano, for the very good articles you wrote in the Manteca Bulletin!

The prison address is Ironwood State Prison, P.O. Box 2229, 19005 Wileys Well Road, Blythe, Ca. 92226.
