The 32-member Ripon High School Marching Band is one of four picked from throughout the nation to play in Washington, D.C., on Veterans Day — Nov. 11 —  at the Marine Corps Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean Memorial.

Led by drum major Haley Meece and band instructor Geoffrey Felver, the band members and their chaperones will fly out of California on Thursday, Nov. 9, and return on Sunday, Nov. 12.

They were selected as the band of choice after a committee member witnessed them performing  in last February’s  Almond Blossom Parade and recommended them for the honor that comes with a price tag of $40,000.

The Ripon Band Boosters along with the students have been raising funds through a series of events including the recent Main Street Day in downtown Ripon where they sold cotton candy along with a huge yard sale as well as soliciting donations via their web page.
