BYUs Haws lights up Pacific for 38 points

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Tyler Haws scored 38 points Thursday night as BYU beat Pacific 88-78 to win its sixth straight game at home.

Haws, a junior, has scored in double figures in 36 consecutive games. He shot 12 of 20 from the field, 4 of 5 from distance and 10 of 11 free throws.

Eric Mika scored 20 while Skyler Halford and Kyle Collinsworth scored 10 apiece, but BYU (14-9, 6-4 West Coast) but was outshot 53.2 percent to 47.4 percent.

BYU quickly took charge with Haws scoring nine straight points, then 10 straight en route to a 45-34 halftime lead.

Pacific used a 9-0 run to draw within four in the second half, but Haws scored seven straight and BYU led 56-47 at 13:46, then pulled away for a 21-point lead on a jumper by Mika. Pacific finished with an 11-1 run.

Tony Gill scored 15 for Pacific (11-9, 2-7) and Andrew Bock 13.
