WESTON RANCH — The East Union sophomore bats came alive after a week off and none was more lethal than Steven Gigli’s in a 26-4 win over Weston Ranch.
Gigli hit for the cycle and scored five runs as EU racked up 16 hits and 12 walks.
“It was a lot of fun to have a win like that,” EU skipper Mike James said.
Logan Miller went 3 for 5 with four RBIs, and Brett Riley was 2 for 2 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs scored.
Bob Omstead was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three more batted in.
East Union (3-5 Valley Oak League, 6-7) hosts the Cougars Thursday.
Anthony Louie tossed five innings, allowing one earned and striking out seven to record the victory.
Zach Gase went 4 for 5 with five stolen bases and four RBIs, while Cory Van Warmerdam hit his second home run in as many outings, finishing 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
The win was Manteca’s fourth straight.
“We’re a better team than that,” Sierra skipper Greg Wilson said. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring a better game.”
Both Sierra and Manteca are tied at 6-2 in VOL play.
The series shifts to Manteca High Thursday.
Anthony Hernandez (3 for 4, 4 RBIs, 3 R) led a Manteca hit parade Tuesday at Sierra, missing the cycle by a double.
Danny Gouveia was 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Zach Menasco went 2 for 4 with a triple, two runs batted in and two more scored.
Felix Hernandez tossed four allowing three runs and striking out eight.
Mikey Mathews closed it out.
Manteca improved to 7-1 in VOL play and 12-3 overall.
The series resumes at Manteca Thursday.

Rocio Lopez had two goals, both to tie the score, as Manteca outshot the Wildcats, 13-4.
