In a game that was set to be played Friday at East Union but had to be moved to Lathrop due to copper-wire theft, Manteca’s Brody Carabello directed a high-octane balanced offense to roll the host Lancers 49-0 and wrap up the Valley Oak League campaign.

Carabello (10-of-15 passing, 163 yards; seven carries, 96 yards) ran for a 12-yard touchdown and threw touchdown passes of 18 yards to Jaylin Harris (five receptions, 80 yards) and 54 yards to Jayden Harris (four receptions, 80 yards).

“I have to give it up to my O-line,” Carabello said. “Without them, I wouldn’t be able to have time in the pocket, and I wouldn’t have had the holes that I did.

“It’s all because of them; I can’t take any credit for it.”

E.J. Johnson Jr. led the ground attack for the Buffaloes (6-1 VOL, 7-3 overall) with six carries for 116 yards and a 14-yard touchdown run.

“I have to thank the linemen and everything they do for me,” Johnson Jr. said. “We had a good practice week, and that’s what carried me forward to make these big runs.”

Seven players scored for Manteca with the Buffaloes racking up 476 yards with a 9.9 yards-per-play average. Manuel Lopez (five carries, 56 yards) scored from 5 yards out, Nikko Juarez (12 carries, 37 yards; one reception, 18 yards) posted a 4-yard touchdown run and Ka’Ron Grisham made the best of his one carry, scoring on a 1-yard plunge.

Juarez and Johnson Jr. led the Manteca defense with seven stops apiece, Grisham six, Jayden Harris (interception) and Brixton Menchaca-Ortiz added five stops apiece with four each for Bode Hiatt, Julien Ramirez, Juju Ramirez and Ricardo Robledo.

“We practice hard and we play like we practice,” Menchaca-Ortiz said. “And on game day we just all come together.

“Hopefully, we will carry this on into playoffs and see how we do.”

This makes 15 straight wins for the Buffaloes over the Lancers (2-4, 5-5) and 25 of the last 26. Manteca leads all-time, 45-13-1.

“With realignment coming we don’t know how many of these in-town games we are going to have,” Manteca coach Mark Varnum said. “And with us moving up to the premier league and them moving down a couple of levels, we have to make the most of them.”

East Union gained 222 yards total and got inside the red zone twice in the first half.

“We’re not a bad football team,” Lancers coach Jason Stock said. “We’re a little short-handed tonight, our left tackle has the flu, and we had to move a couple of guys on the O-line around a little bit, but we were still able to move the ball effectively, at times.

“But when we get down in the red zone, we have to be able to capitalize,. We have to make plays down there and we didn’t. We are going to be in D-IV and we have a chance to make some noise there and we will see on Sunday where we match up there.”

Bryson Ybarra paced the East Union offense with 112 yards on 12 carries, and Urijah Lopez snagged an interception.

Both teams await their playoff assignments which will be released by the Sac-Joaquin Section on Sunday.
