Sierra High closed out the regular season with a 62-26 Valley Oak League loss to visiting Patterson Friday.
Despite the lopsided defeat, the Timberwolves (1-5, 4-6) will have one more game as the Sac-Joaquin Section Bowl Game matchups are expected to be announced over the weekend.
"We were No. 14 coming into this game, and Patterson was highly ranked. I don't think this loss will hurt us," said Sierra coach Ryan Teicheira.
The Tigers (3-3, 5-5) were led by quarterback Scout Silva, who threw for six touchdowns and ran in for two more. He completed 12 of his 14 passes for 170 yards and no interception.
On the ground, Silva racked up 117 yards on seven carries.
After struggling to score on offense in recent outings, Sierra broke that string on the opening possession.
Quarterback Jaysen Martinez connected with Blama Kamara on fourth down — a 21-yard pickup — to keep the 10-play drive alive. He found DJ Shepherd for 23 yards to move the ball inside the Patterson 10. Martinez capped the 71-yard drive by finding Kamara on a 7-yard scoring strike.
It didn't take long for the Tigers to answer back. They went 71 yards on three plays with Silva scrambling into the end zone with a 38-yard run.
Knotted up at 7-7, Patterson put together a strong second quarter.
Early on, Silva found Marvell Henderson on a 10-yard TD pass.
The Tigers were quick to capitalize on an interception with Silva finding Caden Lozano on the 11-yard score.
On the ensuing kickoff, Kamara displayed his speed by racing past the coverage and going 82 yard to paydirt on the return. Ryan Serrantos' extra-point kick trimmed the Patterson lead, 20-14.
TheTigers continued to roll leading into the intermission. Alex Ventura reeled off a 44-yard run, setting up Silva's 7-yard TD run.
Moments later, Silva picked up 44 yards on a run to the Sierra 6. His toss to his big target, Jace Johnson, made it 34-14 at halftime.
Patterson added to its lead early in the third quarter as Silva again hit Lozano for a score. His 51-yard TD connection made it 41-14 in favor of the Tigers.
Johnson, who later scored his second TD on a 38-yard pass play, picked off a pass on defense that led to a 3-yard score from Silva to Ventura.
Sierra put together a pair of second-half TDs.
The first was Isaac Kempf hauling in a 61-yard bomb from Martinez. Kempf later recovered an onside kick.
Shepherd found some running room late in the game, darting 20 yards for the score.
Teicheira, meanwhile, is looking forward to the extra game.
"I want our seniors to go out on a high note," he said.
He's also hopeful for the future of the program, having returned to his alma mater after spending several years establishing the Lathrop High's successful football tradition.
"The culture (at Sierra) is beginning to change," said Teicheira.
