Manteca JV, East Union frosh prevail in cross-town clash

Colton Stonum ran for two touchdowns and threw for one Saturday to lead the Manteca junior varsity to a 36-8 season-ending win over host East Union in Valley Oak League action at Dino Cunial Field on Saturday. 

Stonum (seven carries, 24 yards; 4 for 7 passing, 36 yards) made touchdown runs of 2 and 4 yards and capped the day’s scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Blake Gross.

K.P. MacDannald  (15 carries, 69 yards) added a 13-yard rushing touchdown for Buffaloes and Tommy Perea Jr. (11 carries, 79 yards) ran in a score from 3 yards out.

Ayden Marshal led the Manteca defense with eight tackles. Paul Gaines and Garrison Reis added five stops apiece, Adrian Rios forced a fumble and blocked a punt, Perea Jr. recovered a fumble and Eddervene McDuffie forced a fumble. 

Emilio Perez-Sobarzo (seven carries, 49 yards) got the lone score for the Lancers on a 36-yard touchdown scamper in the third period. Ashton Heath added 55 yards on seven carries. 

Keanu Duenas, Nick Luna, Abel Cha and Brandon Pine paced the East Union defense.


Freshman

East Union 20, Manteca 8

With the Buffaloes driving for the go-ahead score late in the game, Carson Sanders slammed the door in their face with a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown capping a second-half comeback with emphasis.

Trailing Manteca 8-0 at halftime, Sanders (84 yards, nine carries) scored all three Lancers touchdowns in the second half on runs of 2 and 21 yards followed by the interception return. 

Tony Agueda recovered two fumbles for East Union and Orian Germann recovered one. Agueda, Joaquin Delgado and Sanders led the Lancers defense. 

Bryson McMichael staked Manteca to an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a 16-yard touchdown run. Manny Ramierez and Daniel Bernal also contributed to the Buffaloes offense. 

Timothy Davis made an outstanding play for the Manteca defense to keep East Union out of the end zone late in the first half. Ryan Whincup made an interception for the Buffaloes with McMichael, Davis, Gage Pfiefer and Daniel Bernal leading the Manteca defense.
