The Riptide rolled once again.

River Islands is now 2-0 after taking care of visiting Delhi (0-2) in non-league play Friday, 40-10.

"We played hard tonight," said Riptide coach Nick Kendall.

His team could've easily added more to its tally, if not for mistakes and penalties.

"That was the type of night it was for us," he added, as River Islands continues to seek improvement this early in the season.

The Riptide once again showed their ability for the big play.

Evident of that was the first-half scores.

Isaiah Sanchez, for starters, took the opening kickoff and nearly cashed it in for a touchdown.

Instead, Lucas Ruiz took care of that with a 15-yard dash to the end zone on the first play from scrimmage.

Later in the opening quarter, quarterback Daryl Carpenter found wide receiver Michael Figueroa on a 62-yard pass play, making it a 14-3 contest.

Delhi's scoring play was a 31-yard field goal by Edgar Gonzalez.

The Hawks closed the gap to 14-10 following Juan Lopez's big burst up the middle for a 57-yard touchdown midway of the second quarter.

But as the half came to a close, Delhi attempted a field goal from about 30 yards out. That quickly backfired as Darien East delivered, coming away with the missed try and racing the distance for an electrifying score, in turn, giving his team a 20-10 lead at the break.

Ruiz came through again with a pick-6 in the third quarter, hauling in the errant third-down Delhi pass and racing 92 yards to the end zone.

He, along with Sanchez, and Jacobo Keoni were among the standouts on defense.

Later in the third, Carpenter, who completed 17 of his 23 passes for 226 yards and no interception, scrambled, finding East on a 15-yard sideline completion.

East then took it from there, going untouched on the end-around for a 27-yard touchdown.

The rout was on as the Riptide, despite having a few scoring plays called due to penalties, extended the lead, 40-10, early in the fourth.

Carpenter again hit Figueroa with a 26-yard scoring strike to all but close out the scoring.

River Islands is on the road next Friday at Modesto Christian for another non-league contest.
