DELHI — Sisters Brooke and Taylor Alger had always wanted to play as doubles partners.
Ripon Christian’s top two female players finally got their chance Friday in the Southern Athletic League Tournament at Delhi High, and with they’re not done yet after their surprising run to the title.
As the No. 5-seeded tandem, the Algers knocked off the top two including Brianna Arroyo and Ailene Salazar of SAL team champion Delhi 6-3, 6-2 in the final. The Knights certainly earned their spot in the championship round, knocking off top-seeded Dakota Conway and Brianna Rivera from Waterford 5-7, 6-1, 12-10 in the semis.
Brooke and Taylor avoided an upset at the start when they held off No. 12 Tanya Samano and Sarahi Mares of Orestimba, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. They then defeated Delhi’s fourth-seeded team of Evaline Vega and Estefania Cruz, 6-1, 6-2.
For reaching the league final, the Algers —  Brooke is a junior while Taylor a senior — will compete in the Sac-Joaquin Section Coed Division Individual Tournament May 3-4 at Oak Park Tennis Center in Stockton.
