All Lancers in blowout

The East Union Lancers seem to have no respect of their opponents’ capabilities, destroying their second consecutive Valley Oak league opponent by nine runs with the Lancers’ 9-0 win over the visiting Weston Ranch Cougars Thursday.

Lancer hurler Kourtni McCall did her thing against the Cougars, holding Weston Ranch to just two hits and striking out six over six innings of work.

“Kourtni pitched great for us tonight,” East Union head coach Brian Goulart said. “She was effective the whole game and we needed to see a positive performance out of her.”

Jackie Ketner came on for a perfect seventh, setting the Cougars down in order in the final frame. McCall assisted her cause, going 2 for 2 at the plate, including a double and a triple. Jessica Lavoie also was 2 for 2, driving in a game-high five runs with her two hits. Jillian Goulart was 2 for 3, while teammate Kelsey Emerson stroked a 2-RBI double in the win.

East Union (12-2 VOL, 20-5 overall) freshman Marissa Romero made her introduction to the varsity level, banging out a base hit after being pulled up for the Lancers’ postseason run.

“We played really good, errorless softball,” Goulart said. “We were able to get everybody some action, so that is always a good thing as well.”

The Lancers have two more contests before closing out the VOL season, traveling to Sierra Wednesday, and closing out the regular season on senior night next Friday against the Ceres Bulldogs.
