OAKDALE — East Union’s Melinda Amick continued her late-season surge Tuesday in the Valley Oak League Championships, leading the Lancers to a second-place finish at Oakdale Golf & Country Club.
Tourney host Oakdale cemented its second-straight title run with a 422, with five of its players finishing in the top eight. Low medalist Taylor Stewart spearheaded the Mustangs with a 78 and earned her second MVP honor. Nthenya Maithya of Central Catholic was the runner-up with a 79.
Central Catholic finished third with a 494 but missed a team berth to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Tournament next Monday at Tracy Country Club. Joining Oakdale at the section event are East Union and Kimball.
Amick carded an 89 for sixth place and is the lone medalist from the area. Six players not on qualifying teams also advance to the SJS D3 tourney. Manteca has three moving on in Taylor Reed, Bella Gonzales and Kylee Eberle. Bryanna Gavino will represent Sierra.
