The Lancers’ junior middle infielder is off to a hot start, and he’s doing it with the bat and the glove.
Last week, he went 5 for 7 while driving in nine runs over three games. East Union went 2-1 in the non-league contests. Camara also scored three runs, drew three walks, hit two doubles and a two-run homer.
Defensively, he was in on two double plays, four putouts and seven assists with no errors.
East Union started the week with a 9-5 comeback win over visiting Liberty of Brentwood on Tuesday, March 4. The Lancers trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth and jumped ahead with a six-run rally highlighted by Camara’s bases-clearing double.
On top of finishing 2 for 3 with two doubles, he had a busy day in the field. In the sixth, the second baseman turned a 6-4-3 double play, then tracked down a flyball in shallow left-center field in the seventh.
East Union dropped a 4-2 decision at Central Valley on Thursday. Camara plated one of its two runs in the fourth inning and walked twice in a game dominated by pitching.
He and the rest of the Lancers got back into their offensive groove the following day in a 10-0 win at Escalon. That’s where Camara came through with his two-run blast, finishing 3 for 3 with six RBIs.
For the season, Camara is hitting for a team-high .500 batting average with 10 hits, eight runs, 11 RBIs and five doubles. He also has six stolen bases and a .958 fielding percentage.
