Buffs slide by Sierra in three

The Sierra High Timberwolves were able to put up a strong fight yet it wasn’t enough in Manteca’s 2-1 win in Valley Oak League action.

Manteca (5-3 VOL, 8-4 overall) took care of business, winning in three 25-21, 24-26 and 15-11 in the Manteca High gym. Jimi Guibor led the team with six kills, while teammates Mia Ramirez, Erin Kennedy and Mykly Balmut all finished the game with four.

Jessica Reeder handled 23 assists, Jessica Howards snatched out four digs and Ramirez also added a team-high six digs in the win.

Emily Doran led the Timberwolves with four kills and teammate Kaley Bresina contributed a pair. The Timberwolves slipped to 4-4 in league play and will need a strong effort today against Weston Ranch to get back on track.

FRESHMEN
Lathrop 2, Ceres 1
Lathrop High pushed their record to 5-3 in Valley Oak League play with a 2-1 victory over the Ceres Bulldogs. Lathrop showed some resiliency, coming back to win the final game by seven points. The Spartans won the opener 25-13 before dropping game two 21-25 and then holding on for a 15-8 win in the finale.

“The freshman pulled it together and played like a team,” Lathrop head coach Christina Fonseca said.

Jocelyn Arando and Monica Cramcia combined for 14 aces in the match to lead the Spartans. Lathrop will meet up with East Union tonight at 4 p.m.
