STOCKTON – Things are seemingly turning around for the Weston Ranch Cougars. They strung together their third consecutive victory in a 62-48 win over Cordova High to close out play in the Edison Tournament Saturday in Stockton.

The Cougars (3-3) got a huge effort from guard Zerrion Payton, who turned in a game-high 20 points, to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Teammates Dylan Alexander (15 points) and Daiveon Leverett (12 points, 11 rebounds, four assists) continued their strong play on the way to All-Tournament team honors.

“I felt in this tournament, and so far this preseason, we’re at .500 and we’re still finding ourselves,” Weston Ranch head coach Ryan Bono said. “We are still figuring out ways to win ball games and we are still a long ways from clicking together.”

The Cougars will be back on the court Tuesday when they host the Franklin Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m.

In Galt, Jared Goslinga continued his tournament-long dominance with a 19-point effort, and a spot on the tournament’s all tourney team, leading the Knights to a win over Jim Elliot Christian Saturday.

Jordan Goslinga added 12 points in the win and Josh Van Gronigen chipped in with nine.

The Knights came out focused in the third-place game of the tournament, building a 19-6 lead after the first period. Ripon Christian had to fend off a late Jim Elliot run to preserve the victory.
