East Union did what it could with the Oakdale Mustangs, but it wasn’t enough in a 17-25, 11-25, 12-25 loss  in Valley Oak League play Wednesday.

East Union (2-4, 5-7 overall) hung tough with Oakdale in the first game, but Oakdale was able to pull away at crunch time. This would not be the case in the final two games as the Lancers would only muster 23 points combined in the final two games.

Monica King banged home three kills along with Kayla Lamont to lead the Lancers. Teammate Carolina Gutierrez handed out six assists.

“Oakdale is a good team that’s been playing a long time,” EU head coach Rich Posz said. “They were able to get the key points. We really didn’t play that bad.

“We were much better than the score reflects.”

The Lancers will be back on the court Monday when they travel to Sonora to take on the Wildcats.

Kimball 3, Lathrop 1

The Spartans were able to fend off a clean-sweep from the Kimball Jaguars, but that would be it in a 22-25, 13-25, 25-22, 16-25 loss Wednesday.

Monica Brambilla had 30 assists and nine service points to pace the Spartans. Brianna Bobadilla had nine service points, while Loreal Taylor added six blocks and six kills.

Oakdale 2, East Union 1

After pulling out game two in grand fashion, East Union could not keep pace in a 19-25, 25-22, 4-15 VOL loss Wednesday.

The Lancers could only watch as the Oakdale hitters got hot and cruised in the match-deciding third game.

East Union got superb play from the entire back row.
