OAKDALE — East Union 220-pound standout Jaysen Reindel twice won by fall, but it was an otherwise uneventful double-dual match dominated by Valley Oak League powerhouse Oakdale on Wednesday.

The Lancers thrashed Weston Ranch 70-6 before falling to Oakdale, 57-16, but head coach A.J. Reindel was proud of the effort his team put in against one of the state’s top programs.

“Oakdale did not have their complete varsity lineup but was pretty darn close to it,” Reindel said. “We wrestled and competed with them, although the score does not show it too much. We had some matches that were competitive for a while until Oakdale got the pins late. Our guys believed they had a shot and gave it their all, and that’s what I wanted to see.”

Joel Melena (182) also had two wins for East Union, getting a pin against Weston Ranch while outpointing his Oakdale opponent, 13-5. Weston Ranch fielded just six varsity wrestlers against the Lancers, who are now 3-2 going into their regular-season finale with cross-town rivals Manteca and Sierra next week.

East Union also split the junior varsity matches, dispatching Weston Ranch 48-6 and losing to Oakdale,

Manteca 48, Kimball 23

TRACY — Manteca (3-2) ruled at the upper weights with Tyler Welch, Nick Creighton and Mathieu Maddox each getting wins via fall.

The Buffaloes are in position to earn a berth to the Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals but will have to beat Sierra and East Union next week.
