Indians fall to Mustangs in four games

OAKDALE — Ripon got an outstanding look at Oakdale last weekend in Reno, the site of the High Sierra Invitational, and even beat the Mustangs in Nevada, but an erratic effort Wednesday at Oakdale would lead to a 18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 22-25 loss.

“Neither team played as well as they did in Reno,” Indians head coach Larry Keethe said. “We played really well at times, and stunk up the place at others. Oakdale played the same way.”

Kelsey Johnston led the way with 31 assists and four aces, while Cheyenne DePrue had 12 kills, 12 digs and a pair of blocks.

Keethe was impressed with DePrue afterward and lauded Johnston’s efforts yet again.

Ashley Robinson had 10 kills, and Corinne Hernandez turned in nine.

Lauren Fedderson led the block party with three.

“Corinne and Ashley hit the ball well,” Keethe said. “But we have to learn to refocus faster.”

Ripon (5-5) kicks off the Golden Valley Tournament versus Enochs Friday at Merced College.

The Indians junior varsity won in two, while the freshmen fell in two.
