Ripon Christian got redemption during Tuesday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI Tournament at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course.

After failing to take the Southern League title away from Turlock Christian to close out last week’s regular season, RC bounced back and brought home the divisional title with a 451.

The Knights edged TC (459) and Big Valley Christian Modesto (463), who rounded out the top three team finishers. RC will now be headed to Monday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

“(TC) took (the Southern League title), but we were able to squeak by them here at the divisional,” RC head coach Kevin Schenk said. “The greens were a little bumpy, but it was just a matter of us plugging away and avoiding the big numbers.”

Kyle Colyn and Andrew Manes tied for the team-low with 12-over 84s at Stevinson Ranch.

“Heading into the tournament we knew we had a good shot if we played good, conservative golf,” Schenk said. “We went in loose and didn’t beat ourselves. Obviously these weren’t our best scores of the year, but at a time like this it’s just a matter of staying the course.”

Christian Manes shot a 92 and Brandon Dotinga carded a 94. Jesse ReRouss rounded out the RC total with a 97.

“My 84s wouldn’t have moved on individually,” Schenk concluded. “It was a real team effort and it shows the depth of our program. We were anchored by two seniors and four sophomores.”
