It all comes down to today’s winner-take-all Valley Oak League Championships at Livermore’s Poppy Ridge Golf Course.

East Union is part of a three-way scramble for the outright title after beating an improved Manteca squad 213-227 at Manteca Park Golf Course on Tuesday.

Will Brink, the frontrunner for a second league MVP finish, finished with an even 37 to pace the Lancers (12-2). Standing in their way of a fifth VOL crown in seven years are Sonora (12-2) and Oakdale (11-3).

Brink was one of four East Union seniors to compete in their final dual meet Tuesday. Lane Cheatham contributed a 50 in a rare start. Jordan Lund placed second overall with a 39, Zach Couch scored a 43 and Kyle Davis a 55.

Manteca (5-9 VOL, 7-11 overall) could have multiple qualifiers for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Tournament with solid performances today. The Buffaloes ended their regular season strong with a second straight round of 227 on their home course.

Justin Morrish (42), Ray Tinnin (43) and Brandon Ramirez (44) each turned in competitive scores. Davey Tolbert chipped in a 47, and Gus Ladue posted a 51.

“We’re playing well team-wise, keeping four scores in the 40s,” Manteca coach Dave Fontanilla said. “It seems we are peaking well as we go into the league tournament.”

The VOL finals begin at noon today on the first tee. The top three team finishers move onto divisionals along with the best six individuals who are not on advancing teams.
