The first group of seniors took its final bow in front of the home crowd for Lathrop High’s girls basketball team Tuesday.

Led by senior guard Britney Rallios’ 10 points, the Spartans celebrated Senior Night with a 44-39 win that completes a season sweep of Oakdale. On Jan. 25, they snapped a 14-game losing streak by defeating Oakdale 41-38 on the road, marking the program’s first victory in the Valley Oak League.

Tuesday’s win was Lathrop’s first at home in conference play.

“I’m just so proud of the girls for hanging in there and getting this win,” Lathrop coach Ed Fang said.

The difference was an 11-6 surge in the third quarter that gave Lathrop (2-11, 4-20) a 29-26 lead.

“Our full-court man press turned the corner for us in the second half,” Fang said.

Freshman guard Diamond Gomez contributed nine points, and senior Jasmine Elder finished with eight.

For Gomez, it was her first game back since injury an ankle in a loss to first-year varsity Kimball on Jan. 21. The rematch is Thursday in Tracy and is the season finale for both squads.
