The 6-foot-3 Indians senior helped Ripon break into the win column last week with a pair of clutch performances at the free-throw line.

In a 59-56 home win over Golden Valley of Merced on Thursday, Gillespie added to his 18 points when he drained a pair of free throws with 28.6 seconds left in the game to spot the Indians to a five-point lead.

Two days earlier in a 50-47 win over visiting Patterson, Ripon had the ball on an inbounds play with a one-point lead and 25 seconds remaining in the game. Gillespie – who earned high-point honors with 17 – got the ball on a designed play and after he was fouled the most reliable Indians free-throw shooter came through for a three-point lead.

“Logan is arguably the hardest worker in our program,” Ripon coach Justin Graham said. “He’s the type of kid who is in the gym every chance he can get, and his hard work is starting to pay off.

“He’s a leader for our program and someone our kids to strive to be like.”
