Manteca High’s Tydus Verhoeven found Frankie Lopez in the corner for a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in the championship game of the Cosumnes Oaks Running with the Pack Tournament on Saturday with Elk Grove and that proved to be the game winner in a 54-51 thriller at Cosumnes Oaks High in Elk Grove.

The Buffaloes (7-0) needed a 21-point fourth to overcome the Thundering Herd (8-3).

“I was very proud of our composure,” Manteca coach Brett Lewis said. “For the second day in a row we executed at the end of the game to finish the other team off.

“Our guys responded to a couple big knockout blows and we hung in there and finished them off at the end. This was a big championship for our kids and our program and I am proud.”

Matt Ender, Jacob Tolbert, and Inder Randhawa came off the bench to give a much-needed spark to a flat-footed Buffaloes attack.

“I am very proud of Matt, Inder, and Jacob for stepping up big for us to help keep us in the game to give us an opportunity to be there at the end,” Lewis said.

Anand Hundal led Manteca with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kenny Wooten added 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks and Verhoeven had 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two blocks.
