Manteca High’s girls tennis team began the second half of the Valley Oak League schedule with a commanding 9-0 win over visiting Sonora Thursday.
The Buffaloes improved to 8-0 in league and 11-2 overall.
They won three matches on Thursday without giving up a game. Wendy Lin blanked Nathasha Estes 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles contest, and Noha Elabed was perfect against Hannah Smith at No. 6 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Julia Saling and Sealy McAdams also won the by the same score.
The rest were just as one-sided.
The No. 1 singles match was won by Rosa Zou 6-2, 6-1. Adaeze Nkwocha (6-3, 6-2), Weley Lin (6-2, 6-3) and Jenny Yu (6-0, 6-3) were also victorious.
Liz Diaz and Kaile Hunt prevailed (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 doubles. The third tandem of Elizabeth Tolbert and Katie Inderbitzin won by forfeit.
Sierra 8, East Union 1
The Timberwolves (7-1) completed a season sweep of East Union (3-4), which had a three-match winning streak snapped.
Maddie Ysalva edged out Sierra’s Rosie Reynolds 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 to win the No. 6 singles match and earn the Lancers their lone point.
They had chances to tally two more in doubles but dropped three-set matches. Sierra’s No. 2 team of Barbara Baxter and Kelsey Wells overcame Olivia Vezaldenos and Lauren Cotton 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. In the third doubles contest, Liana Bassett and Simran Thind squeaked out a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 18-16 victory over Nayeli Del Real and Tabatha Barrington.
Sierra’s singles wins came from Vannida Nguyen (6-3, 6-1), Naomi Nunis (6-2, 6-1), Anna Cardenas (6-0, 6-1), Maddie Banks (opponent retired) and Annie Banks (6-3, 6-4). Emma Hunter and Brenda Padilla took the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-4.
