The Ripon Christian girls soccer team continued its dominant start to the Southern League season with Friday’s 5-2 win at Gustine.

Teagan Manus powered the Knights (3-0, 7-5-1 overall) to their fifth straight win with a hat trick and an assist. Kaylie Colyn helped get Manus going with an assist for the game’s first goal. Manus scored all three of her goals in the first half, and Colyn added another assist in the second half.

Ahead 3-1 to start the second half, Ripon Christian stretched its lead when Kaylin Groen connected for a header off Adri Van Groningen’s corner kick. Van Groningen then scored one of her own late in the contest for good measure.

Ripon 1, Hughson 1

At Mistlin Park, Ripon’s string of four consecutive shutout victories was ended, but the Indians (1-0-1, 4-2-1 overall) did well to avoid suffering their first league defeat.

Tia Sidtikun recorded the equalizer with a penalty kick in the 78th minute after she drew a foul in the penalty box. Both Sidtikun and Brianna Mortimer had opportunities tie it just minutes before as Ripon devoted its forces to the attacking third.

Ripon came up empty handed in the first half when it outshot the Huskies (0-1-1, 3-3-1), 6-0. Esmeralda Ramos put Hughson ahead in the 57th minute.

“We start out 1-0-1 against two playoff teams from last year, so we have to be pretty happy with how we kicked off league,” Ripon assistant coach Bryce Perkins said.
