Morris sets new scoring record for MHS

Sammie Morris finished with a hat trick and set Manteca High’s girls’ varsity soccer scoring mark at the same time during an 8-0 rout of Lathrop on Tuesday.

Morris scored the Buffaloes’ third, fourth and fifth goals as she helped her team improve to 8-3-1 in VOL, 16-5-1 overall. She now has 65 goals in her decorated four-year career at Manteca.

Sialei Manuleleua netted Manteca’s first goal to make it 1-0 early on an assist by Morris. Leah Manuleleua scored second off an assist by Katie Locke. Morris provided Manteca the 3-0 cushion at the half and pushed the margin to five and six in the second half. Chenayi Tavaziva scored the Buffaloes’ fourth and seventh goals. The goal that made it 7-0 was assisted by Jasmine Odell.  Adaze Nkwocha made up the final score after an assist by Anna Arriola.

Manteca will play again Thursday night at Oakdale at 6:30 p.m.



East Union 1, Kimball 1

In Tracy, East Union (9-1-2 VOL, 16-1-2 overall) was seconds away from a huge win that would keep its title hopes alive.

Instead, Adaurie Dayak netted the game-tying goal for Kimball (9-0-1, 17-0-1), which is on pace to earn its first VOL championship.

Isabella Cardenas pushed the Lancers ahead with a goal in the 33rd minute. Goalies Anna Wood (8 saves) and Ashley Almeida (5 saves) came up with big stops for EU.



Sierra 2, Sonora 1

Tiffany Quezada scored twice for the Timberwolves (4-6-2 VOL, 8-8-4 overall), and Patricia Angel dished out both assists.



Frosh-soph

East Union 5, Kimball 0

Atalie Cardenas anchored East Union with a hat trick. Mariah Jeffrey and Alexis Phillips scored one apiece.
