Manteca High’s boys tennis squad completed a season sweep of Lathrop with an 8-1 victory at home Thursday.
The two teams met just the day before at Manteca Regional Tennis Center for a makeup match, with the Valley Oak League leading Buffaloes (10-0coasting to a 9-0 win.
They used a different lineup for Thursday’s contest, allowing some of their starters to rest while others got to experience a live match.
Taking over the No. 1 singles spot for the day was freshman Michael Lopez, who prevailed 6-2, 6-3. Usual starters Jacob Webb (6-1, 6-2) and Yok-Jing Ma (6-0, 6-1) also won handily.
The final three singles matches each lasted three sets, with Manteca (10-0, 13-4 overall) taking two of them.
Edgar Fernandez came back to win 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 4 match, as did Andre Wiggins, 5-7, 6-0, 10-5 (super tiebreaker). Lathrop got its only point at No. 6 singles, with Albert Hoang defeating Gino Mercado 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
