Ripon was driving late in the game looking to take the lead when a bad snap on fourth down gave the ball back to Orestimba, which ran the clock out to escape Stouffer Field with a 26-21 Trans-Valley League flag football win.

“I’m sad because we had them,” Ripon coach Louis Rivera said. “That one hurts, because I think we would have got the score.

“Orestimba is a great team. They are well-coached, they catch everything and their quarterback can run and throw – they are well-rounded.”

Warriors quarterback Salece Machado had her way with the Ripon defense, going 19 of 22 for 322 yards with touchdown throws of 21 and 61 yards to Imelda Beltran-Pelayo and 19 yards to Ellery Gustafson as well as running in a score from 8 yards out which proved to be the winning score for the Warriors (2-0 TVL, 14-1 overall).

“She (Machado) is a good little athlete,” Orestimba coach John Labno said. “She had a really good game with only two incompletes and an interception.

“Ripon played a great game and put a lot of pressure on us. We did OK, and we have to keep working hard. We know what we have ahead of us.”

Ana Shriver (20 of 30, 214 yards; 2 carries, 79 yards) had a hand in all three scores for Ripon (1-1, 11-6) with touchdown passes of 1 yard to Giuliana Locarnini (four receptions, 29 yards) and 25 yards to Aubree Fleming (four receptions, 55 yards) and she ran in a score from 6 yards out. Ava Aguirre picked up 90 yards on eight receptions and Taylor Paris added 40 yards on four catches.

Locarnini paced the Ripon defense with six pulls. Brookelyn Betcshart added five stops, and Aubree Fleming (interception) four.

Ripon travels to Hughson on Tuesday night at 6.
