Playoff-bound Lathrop wraps up WAC play with sweep of Mountain House

Lathrop can now shift its focus to the postseason after ending Western Athletic Conference play with a 25-11, 26-24, 25-10 sweep of visiting Mountain House on Tuesday.

The Spartans (12-2, 17-7) finish as the runner-up in league. Mountain House dropped to 7-7 in the WAC, 8-9 overall.

Alaba Olaleye anchored Lathrop with 17 digs, six kills and six aces. Elizabeth Andrade added six kills, five digs and two aces. Azul Maldonado had five kills and six digs.

Setter Camila De La Garza accumulated 13 assists, five digs and two aces. Alejandra Velasquez contributed five assists and two digs. Celeste Narvaez tallied 10 digs.

 

Manteca 3, East Union 0

Courtney Washburn netted 10 kills and four blocks to help the visiting Buffaloes (4-5, 17-11 overall) sweep the Valley Oak League match, 25-11, 25-21, 25-18.

Michaela Singh spearheaded the attack with 11 kills. Carsyn Van Zant chipped in six kills, and Izabella Sanchez had four along with three blocks.

Nicole Ayala led the defense with 18 digs and four aces. Jillian Santos came up with nine digs.

The Lancers (0-10-8-11) were paced by Mariela Navarro’s five kills and six blocks. Makayla Viri had 11 digs, and Elizabeth Johnson contributed four blocks. Jatziry Garcia garnered 11 digs. 

 

Sierra 3, Kimball 0

Zoe Kossart collected 14 kills, nine aces and five digs to lead the VOL-leading Timberwolves (9-0, 22-4 overall) to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 win.

They end their regular season tonight at Manteca.

Rebecca Thomson turned in 34 assists, four digs and three aces. Jenna Dalen contributed with nine digs, Alex Chapman tallied six kills and two aces, and Elaina Threet had six kills and four aces.

 

Junior varsity

Manteca 2, East Union 1

The visiting Buffaloes held on for the 27-25, 21-25, 15-10 win.

Peyton McDonald and Sophia Nussbaumer spearheaded the attack with eight and four kills, respectively. Jayana Dias had 11 assists, five digs and four aces. Isabekka Medina added five digs, four kills and two aces.

East Union was led by Laura Montanez’s 10 assists, four aces, four digs and nine service points. Izabella Avalos rapped seven kills. Isabella and Ariella Mejia collected nine digs apiece.

 

Lathrop 2, Mountain House 0

The Spartans rolled to a 25-17, 25-10 sweep behind three kills apiece from Faith Moya and Annabelle Obasuyi.

Julia Roaquin chipped in six assists and three digs. Justine Mabutas picked up 10 digs.

 

Sierra 2, Kimball 0

Megan Azevedo blasted seven kills, and Jenna Cai contributed four as the Timberwolves swept, 25-15, 25-20.

Cianna Leonardo contributed with 10 assists and two aces. Ellie Denny picked up eight digs.

 

Freshman

Sierra 2, River Islands 0

The Timberwolves had their way in a 25-9, 25-17 win on Monday.

Danica Cesante led the attack with 15 assists and three aces. Maitland Kohoutek chipped in five kills. Ashley De Belen collected four aces and kills. Kailyn Owen (two aces), Kaylee Hayne and Taytum Doctolero each had three digs.

 

Manteca 2, East Union 0

Manteca rolled to a 25-16, 25-11 victory.

Saniyah Anthony tallied five kills and three digs. Riley Ward (five assists, three digs), Riley Ward (five assists, five aces, Talia Shelbourne (five aces, three kills) and Jocelyn Baptist (three aces) were other top contributors for the Buffaloes.

Gwendolin Baker led East Union with five aces and five digs. Caliyah Lopez had four digs. Bailey Ford fired three kills.

 

Lathrop 2, Mountain House 1

Lathrop battled back for thrilling 17-25, 25-18, 15-12 season-ending win.

Alyana Vere fired 10 aces and three kills to go with eight digs. Shakara Porter and Dayanara Machuca contributed four and three kills, respectively.

Tatiana Lopez (kill) and Kriselle Matela dished out five assists apiece. Moira Ramones had 10 digs.

 

Kimball 2, Sierra 0

The Timberwolves were unable to get over the hump in a 23-25, 21-25 setback.

De Belen served five aces, Kohoutek clobbered six kills, Danica Cesante distributed six assists and Izzy Gillette had three digs.
