Lynette Vos reminds her girls daily.

“I keep telling them that every stroke counts,” she said.

That was certainly the case Monday in the Valley Foothill League North Division Midseason Tournament.

Vos’ Lady Knights of Ripon Christian further entrenched themselves in third place in the league standings at Micke Grove Golf Links, edging fourth-place Riverbank 461-463. Ripon Christian beat Riverbank by two strokes, 189-191, in their head-to-head showdown on Aug. 30.

Ripon Christian was already in third place going into the event. At the end of the regular season, the top three teams advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament.

It’s been a breakout season thus far for RC, which is 3-2 in dual matches so far after going 2-10 last year. The Knights cap the first half of duals today against Linden at Lockeford Springs Golf Course.

Bret Harte won the midseason tournament, beating defending champion Escalon. Bret Harte’s Emaline Ellsworth was low medalist with an 11-over 83, while Escalon standout Parker Pilati was the No. 2 individual with an 86. Ripon High junior Sienna Starck continued to establish herself as one of the league’s top golfers with a 94, good for third place.

Jenny Wickham paced RC with a 98, which was the sixth lowest score. Kaitlyn Groshong (111), Vanessa Vallo (120) and Robin Reyes (132) made up the rest of the team’s score.

Ripon ended up in fifth place with a 472. Also scoring for the Indians (1-4) were Erin Wever (117), Hailey Rae Rose (129) and Sierra Atilano (132). They will be without their best player, 2011 VFL North MVP and Manteca Bulletin All-Area Golfer of the Year Haylee Fannin (back), for the remainder of the season.

Ripon hosts Calaveras today at Jack Tone.
