Ripon Christian ended Lowell’s season for the second straight year on Saturday, sweeping the California Interscholastic Federation Division III NorCal semifinal, 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.
The No. 13-seeded Knights (35-5) are traveling to No. 3 Archie Williams (18-10) of San Anselmo on Tuesday. The winner will vie for a state title this upcoming Saturday at Santiago Canyon College in Orange. Del Norte (24-14) of San Diego and Redwood (35-6) of Visalia are battling in the SoCal final. Archie Williams is the defending state champ in the division.
Lowell (29-9), the reigning San Francisco City Section champion, received the No. 8 seed each of the last two years. Last season, Ripon Christian knocked off the Cardinals in the opening round of the Division IV northern regionals on its way to a state championship.
The Knights had their way again in rematch, dominating the opening set and staving off a late run from Lowell in the second. Game 3 started back-and-forth before Ripon Christian pulled away in the end.
“The girls started strong and never looked back,” RC coach Kayla Kootstra said. “We were in control for the majority of the game and played with good confidence and smart, aggressive execution to get the win in three.”
Jordan Vander Veen led the Knights with 16 kills, two blocks, eight digs and three aces. Megan Weststeyn collected 38 assists and two blocks. Sydney Hoffman added 10 kills and two aces. Leah Van Wyngarden chipped in eight kills, nine digs and 12 service points. Allison Brown racked up 16 digs.
