Ripon Christian dropped two three-set heartbreakers in a very competitive 6-3 loss to Escalon in Monday’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Coed Tournament quarterfinal at the Ripon Community Center.
Also eliminated Monday was Weston Ranch’s boys team, which was dealt a 7-2 loss to Mira Loma in its first quarterfinal match. Details of the Division II Tournament contest were not available as of press time.
Escalon won the pivotal points at No. 1 girls singles and No. 2 boys singles. Parker Pilati edged out RC’s Kristi VanDiver, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. In the boys match, Rafael Felix outlasted Kyle VanVuren 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 after giving up the first set.
Ripon Christian’s Darren Boersma prevailed in the No. 1 boys showdown, beating Zach Mando, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Ripon Christian triumphed in both all-girls doubles matches. Katie Donoho and Lauren Herbert came through, 6-3, 6-3; while Makenna Koslosky and Dakota Eastin rolled, 6-2, 6-4.
