Ripon mashes Modesto Christian in five

Ripon made quick work of visiting Modesto Christian on Thursday, amassing seven runs in the second inning en route to a 10-0 mercy-shortened win. The Indians plated their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end it early.

The Indians (6-3 Trans-Valley League, 16-7 overall) totaled 11 hits and four walks. Melanie Wilkerson hit 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Tiana Chacon was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Nicole Kaiser and Taylor Vernon also drove in two runs apiece. Eight of the team’s nine batters contributed at least a hit, and seven different players scored.

Freshman Danielle Sperry scattered four hits, walked one and struck out five from the pitcher’s circle.

Modesto Christian fell to 1-8 in league, 7-12 overall.



Southern League

Le Grand 8, Ripon Ch. 1

The Knights (2-8, 3-11) committed eight errors that led to five unearned runs behind pitcher Shelby Vrieling, who was otherwise solid. She posted six strikeouts, scattered 11 hits and walked two.

Ripon Christian totaled just three hits on offense, with Jenny Wickham going 2 for 3 with a double and a run. Brianna De Jong drove in the lone run for RC with a sacrifice fly.
