The River Islands girls volleyball team picked up its second win of the season Tuesday, downing West of Tracy 25-19, 25-22, 26-28, 25-16 in a non-league matchup at home.

Coach Rhiannon Genilla lauded her Riptide players for “adapting to evolving lineups” and “working hard in the face of adversity” after dropping the third set.

Makaylah Kai Samoranos led the way with 17 kills. River Islands (2-7) did not usual starting setter Corley Simoni for the opening set, but the sophomore still managed to rack up 14 kills and 10 assists.

Leighann Ruiz added 15 kills and two assists.

Jaselle Cliatt (five kills, two blocks) and Aaliyah Smith (three kills, two blocks) were also key contributors on the front row.

The Riptide travel to Big Valley Christian on Thursday.

Ripon Christian 3, Orestimba 0

The Knights (6-2) started Trans Valley League play with a one-sided 25-9, 25-12, 25-14 sweep at Orestimba (4-6).

Junior setter Brooklynn Postma anchored the attack with 14 assists and five kills. Rhian Heuvel added nine assists.

Alyssa Hofman pounded out nine kills, while Kylie Koolhaas chipped in five. Bailey Brayton served four aces. Lauren Mouw led the defense with 12 digs.

The Knights also won the JV match in three sets.

Ripon Christian’s busy week continues today with a non-league match with visiting Pitman.

Lathrop 3, Pacheco 0

It was all Lathrop (7-3) in the WAC opener at home, 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.

Sariah Hilton amassed 35 assists, five digs and three aces. Erin Chunn added 10 kills to the attack to go with four digs.

Siliana Fa’ataualofa (two solo blocks, six digs) and Breanna Wiseman registered nine kills apiece. Jadore Dixon contributed 11 digs and two aces.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Lathrop 31, Pacheco 7

The Spartans (5-2) kicked off their WAC title defense in Los Banos, winning handily behind Ja’Leiyah Ray’s three touchdown passes. She threw for 102 yards, added 11 yards rushing and an extra-point conversion.

Ray hit three different receivers on the scoring tosses: Faith Allen (three receptions, 58 yards), Jaylah Seabron (four receptions, 28 yards) and Tianna Gonzalez (six receptions, 42 yards). Allen also scored on a 50-yard punt return.

Marianna Coon added a 58-yard rushing touchdown, ending with 79 yards on four carries.

Madilynn Nungaray and Sareah Reed paced the defense with 10 tackles apiece.

Lathrop hosts undefeated Grace Davis tonight.

GIRLS TENNIS

Manteca 7, Patterson 2

Led by No. 1 player Hailie Kim’s 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Violet Tongstan, Manteca swept all six singles matches to move to 2-0 in VOL play, 6-1-1 overall.

The rest of the singles matches were won by Reina Ngo (6-1, 6-0), Rae Limbago (6-1, 6-0), Saihaj Ghuman (6-0, 6-2), Paisley Coenenberg (6-3, 6-1) and Ekam Ghuman (6-0, 6-2).

The Buffaloes’ No. 2 doubles team of Alyson Alvarado and Cat Estrada Perez took care of Miranda Marron and Angelica Melesio, 6-3, 6-2.

Manteca heads to Oakdale today.

GIRLS GOLF

Lathrop 279, Johansen n

Shelby Jauregui was the overall runner-up, as she led Lathrop to its fourth straight win to start the WAC season. She carded a 67 at Creekside Golf Course in Modesto.

Johansen’s Abbigael McDonald was low medalist with a 66.

Evangelina Quezada (70), Savanna Quezada (71) and Divine Locke (71) round out scoring for Lathrop.

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 1

The Spartans held on for the 25-9, 21-25, 15-12 victory.

Zakia Booker led them with six kills, two aces and three digs. Elsa Johnson tallied seven kills and four aces. Ne’Myah Belion pitched in six digs and five aces.

Aisha Wiseman contributed two kills and three blocks in the front row. Ariannah Sheel picked up 12 digs, and Cassidy Fa’ali’I handed out 17 assists.

Lathrop 39, Pacheco 0

Alexia Garcia spearheaded the dominant effort with two passing touchdowns and two more running. She finished 7-of-9 passing for 78 yards.

Ailyn Alcaraz had four catches for 63 yards and a TD. Jacquelyn Avalos highlighted the defense with two pass deflections and a 47-yard pick-six.

Frosh girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 1

Jessica Reif racked up 14 assists and five aces, as Lathrop rolled to a 25-15, 13-25, 15-6 win.

Kyla Swan produced five kills, four aces and three digs. Liona Lauaki added four kills and a block. Jasmeet Bhuee had three kills, and Jazmine Castaneda five digs.
