The Manteca girls tennis team started Valley Oak League play on Thursday and made quick work of visiting Central Catholic, 7-2.

Hailie Kim, Reina Ngo, Rae Limbago and Paisley Coenenberg shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Nos. 4 and 6 singles players Saihaj Ghuman and Ekam Ghuman both won their matches, 6-1, 6-0.

The Buffaloes’ No. 2 doubles team of Alyson Alvarado and Cat Estrada Perez cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Ryan Gomez and Ziqi Huang dropped the No. 1 match to Fernanda Morfin and Arianna Nguyen, 2-6, 2-6. Ivroy Kollar and Delylah Quintero were defeated by Gwen Cabrera and Itahlee Taylor, 4-6, 2-6.

Manteca (1-0, 6-1 overall) travels to Patterson next Tuesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Manteca 3, Sonora 2

The Buffaloes (5-3) earned a quality non-league win Thursday at home, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14.

Taimane Tu’uga tallied team-highs with 19 kills and 26 digs. Ariceli Castillo contributed 13 kills, 17 digs, two blocks and two aces. Trinity Todd contributed eight kills and five blocks.

Katie Anderson amassed 25 assists, 18 digs, three blocks and two aces. Jillienne Decosta Aldape added 10 assists and four digs.

Chloe Martin led defensive specialists with 15 digs, while Lana Bondoc and Maddie Nunes each had 10.

Manteca’s resumes its tough non-league schedule on Wednesday against visiting Linden.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Sierra 14, Vanden 13

Taylor Zalunardo (seven rushes, 38 yards) ran for two touchdowns, and center Kayla Amarante (seven receptions, 40 yards) received two conversion passes to help the Timberwolves (5-4) notch the big home win against Vanden (8-2-2).

Zalunardo was also 14-of-18 passing for 81 yards. Mia Aguirre contributed 82 rushing yards on nine carries, as well as five flag pulls and a sack on defense. Genessa Chaparro added six flag pulls.
