ROUNDUP: Ripon, Sierra roll to girls soccer wins

RIPON — Ripon High’s girls soccer team took care of business Friday at Stouffer Field, drubbing Escalon 6-0 to remain perfect in Trans-Valley League play.
The Indians (6-0, 11-3-1 overall) welcome defending champion Hilmar (5-1, 12-7) next Thursday with the league title on the line.
Aubree Pelon highlighted Ripon’s latest dominant effort, netting the first of her three goals in the seventh minute. Ariana Scholten and Devaney Dougherty each contributed one goal and two assists. Defender Kailey Tijero capped the scoring in the 74th minute. Ellie Everhart and Alexa Burton pitched in one assist each.
Ashley Pugh recorded a pair of saves, and Ripon outshot the Cougars (1-4-1, 2-11-5), 16-2.

Sierra 3, Kimball 1

TRACY — Kimball (2-4-2, 5-8-4) typically gives visiting teams some trouble on its artificial turf at Don Nicholson Stadium, and Friday night was no different against Valley Oak League-leading Sierra (7-0, 19-2-1).
Jadyn Shinn collected her 28th goal for the season and added an assist. Freshman Juliana Rodriguez also had a goal and an assist. Tiana Cello scored once. Callie Crain came up with one save.

BOYS HOOPS
Lathrop 57, Ceres 52

CERES — The Spartans (5-3, 13-8 overall) got a much-needed Western Athletic Conference win after dropping three straight. First-place Mountain House visits next Friday, Jan. 25.
Walton Whaley poured in 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead Lathrop. Aaron Doral and Amiel Adams each contributed eight points. Adams also racked up 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists to go with eight points.

BOYS SOCCER
Ceres 6, Lathrop 1

LATHROP — Chris Almanza scored the lone goal for Lathrop (0-7-1, 0-15-1).
Ceres improved to 7-0-1 in the WAC and 12-1-2 overall. The visiting Bulldogs also won the junior varsity match, 6-0.
