T-wolves take cross-town volleyball match with East Union

Rebecca Thomson orchestrated the Sierra volleyball attack on Tuesday, handing out 16 assists while serving five aces in a 25-15, 25-18, 25-7 sweep of visiting East Union.

Zoe Kossart collected seven kills and nine digs. Elise Vaifale added five kills.

East Union was led by Donnese Payne’s three kills and two blocks. Meritiana Luani tallied nine digs. Bella Israel chipped in a kill, an ace and three digs.

East Union won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-14. Marcella Carranza led the Lancers with four kills, four assists, three aces and 12 service points. Jatziry Garcia contributed three kills and 10 points. Gisele Velazquez added two kills, two assists and nine points. Giselle Hamilton paced the defense with five digs, while Vanessa Padilla had two blocks to go with two kills.

The freshman contest was also swept by East Union, 25-9, 25-16. Katelyn Trevino dominated from the service line with 18 points and seven aces. Carolyn Johnson and Alexandra Maldonado each had two aces, and Princess Jefferson hit for two kills.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

East Union 5, Weston Ranch 4

The No. 1 doubles team of Valentine Dierickx and Leannie Rodriguez pulled out a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory to help the Lancers earn the road win.

Trinity Pacheco (6-2, 6-4), Moe Kagiyama (6-3, 6-3) and Celeste Guerro (6-1, 6-1) picked up wins from the Nos. 1-3 singles spots. Miranda Renter and Jalyssa Molina won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-4.

 

Johansen 5, Lathrop 4

No. 1 singles player Godwina Ogbeide defeated McKenna Tayler 6-4, 6-4 to claim a point for Lathrop. No. 2 Madilynn Romero (6-3, 6-3) and Ruby Chavez (6-2, 6-7 [6], 6-1) also triumphed in singles play.

The Spartans’ third doubles tandem of Kiele Matus and Taimane Lowery gutted out a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 12-7 win. Lathrop had a chance to get the overall win but fell short in the third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles.
