Ripon’s girls volleyball team tested reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champion Escalon for three sets Wednesday but could not get over the hump in the 22-25, 23-25, 23-25 defeat.
The Indians fell to 1-1 in Trans-Valley League play and 10-6 overall. Escalon remains undefeated at 16-0. Additional information was not available as of press time.
GIRLS TENNIS
Manteca 6, Sierra 3
Katie Kim (6-0, 6-0), Chloe Marquis (6-2, 6-0), Emma Ngo (6-3, 6-1), Shreya Raman (6-2, 6-2) and Christina Nguyen (7-5, 6-2) swept singles matches for Manteca. The No. 3 doubles team of Guadalupe Mercado and Michailla Springs won, 6-4, 6-4.
Sierra No. 5 Grace Langenfeld won by default, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Simran Dosanjh and Eva Kimmely Mejia. Munveer Dosanjh and Natalie Mejia battled to a 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 win at No. 2 doubles.
Lathrop 8, Grace Davis 1
It was a much closer than the final score indicates, with four matches going to third sets.
Madilynn Romero outlasted Ava Wear 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (7) in the 2-hour, 48-minute No. 1 singles match. Lathrop’s lone defeat came at No. 4 singles, as Lupe Zepeda fell short against Heidy Santos, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7).

Winning singles matches for Sierra on Tuesday were Tanya Sharma (6-0, 6-2), Maryn Peterson (6-0, 6-0), Navleen Dosanjh (6-1, 6-0), Manonga Veeravalli (6-3, 2-6, 10-3), Grace Langenfeld (6-0, 6-0) and Amber Garza (6-4, 6-2).
Doubles winners were Jaden Alton/Simran Dosanjh (6-2, 6-0), Munveer Dosanjh/Kimmely Mejia (6-0, 6-0) and Naomi Rios/Natalie Mejia (6-0, 6-0).
Beyer 7, Lathrop 2
Lathrop dropped the Western Athletic Conference match in Modesto on Monday.
Eliza Alday defeated Caroline Roseman 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while No. 1 doubles partners Jasmin Smith and Tai Lowery took down Sarah Alwakeel and Lauren Bone, 4-6, 6-3, 14-12.
