Double winners lead Sierra in VOL Championships

Sierra’s Christian Gonzales won a pair of boys events Thursday, while teammates Mya Everett and Tyleah Badea each netted a pair of girls gold medals in the Valley Oak League Track and Field Championships at Guss Schmiedt field.

Gonzales took the lead with 450 meters left in the 1,600 and kept it for a first-place finish in 4:27.08. He also won the 800 (2:02.19)

“Today, I was just going for placement,” Gonzales said of the 1,600. “I knew this competition would give me a challenge.

“I knew it was going to be a close one coming down to that last lap.”

Sierra’s Oluwademilade Akinleye won the long jump (21 feet, 3 inches).

“I feel great,” Akinleye said. “This was a huge PR (personal record) by more than a foot.

“I would like to thank my brother who encourages me, Coach Jayden my jump coach and Coach Bingham.”

Manteca’s William Brown won both the 110 hurdles (14.65) and 300 hurdles (40.16).

“I felt good,” Brown said of his 110 race. “I did everything I needed to.”

Sierra’s Blama Kamara was a double winner in the 200 (22.09) and 400 (49.17), and East Union swept the 100 with Jackson Fay (10.58), J.P. Abrew (10.89) and Gunnar Fay (11.05).

The Sierra boys won the meet with 123 points.

The top five finishers Thursday will return to Guss Schmiedt Field on Wednesday, May 13, for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III trials.

Advancing for Sierra with first-place finishes were Teagan Nazzisi (shot put, 55-4 1/2) and the

4x400 relay (3:26.46). Finishing second were Anthony Glover (200, 51.43) and the 4x800 relay, (8:33.34); fourth were Connor McCoy (shot put, 45-9 ½; discus, 135-9), Sebastian Paterson (800, 2:05.01), Max Perez (1,600, 4:33.48) and B.J. Cutar (triple jump, 36 feet-9 ½) and fifth

Kenneth Roach (400, 52.59), Max Paterson (800, 2:05.37), Mantoj Grewal (300 hurdles, 43.60),

Diego Torres-Muniz (shot put, 44-4 ½) and Arjun Prabhu (triple jump, 38-6 ½)

Qualifying for East Union with a first-place finish was the 4x100 relay team (42.45). finishing second were Jackson Fay (200, 22.16) and Gunnar Fay (high jump, 5-9), third Gunnar Fay (100, 11.05), Mario Quezada (300 hurdles, 40.80) and Sean Rutter (pole vault, 12-0), fourth Gunnar Fay (200, 23.39), Jacob Thomas (110 hurdles, 16.38), the 4x400 relay (3:48.79) and Antonio Escobar (pole vault, 12-0) and fifth the 4x800 relay (9:34.95), Mario Quezada (110 hurdles, 16.40), Anthony Oteri (high jump, 5-5) and Gabriel Lopez (pole vault, 11-6).

The Manteca 4x100 relay was second (43.18) and Jayden Harris was fourth (400, 52.08)

Along with the 4x800 relay (9:00.09) and Jacob Perez was fifth in the discus (123-10).

Everett and Badea led Sierra to a second-place finish with 119 points.

Everett won the triple jump (35-8 ½) and high jump (5-2).

“I felt good,” Everett said of her triple jump win. “I feel like each time I compete I get a little better.”

Badea won the 1600 (5:15.10) and 800 (2:22.24).

“I kind of figured I should just settle in and ride off the back and then kick it with 200 to go,” Badeah said of her 1,600. “Which is exactly what I did.”

Sierra’s Felisa Cruz-Olenhouse was a double winner in the 100 (12.35) and 200 (26.23). Khamylle Bollengier won the 400 (59.80) as did the 4x100 relay team (50.66) and 4x400 relay (4:07.98).

Bollengier was second in the 200 (26.46), Sofia Montes third in the 100 (12.63). Finishing fourth were Anna Dittman (3,200, 11:45.08), Mamana Felesiailangi-Inia (discus, 101-6) and Mia Ona (pole vault, 8-6) and Monserrat Saavedra was fifth in the 1,600 (5:51.60).

Manteca’s Raniya Nelson won the discus (139-9) and was second in the shot put (35-4). Also finishing second were Susan Joseph (pole vault, 9-6) and the 4x400 relay (4:20.97). Kayla Louis was third in the 400 (1:02.70) as was Kiara Williams (100 hurdles, 17.41). Finishing fourth were the 4x100 relay (51.90), Kayla Louis (200, 27.20), Paisley Coenenberg (1,600, 5:44.09) and Delanee Brown (shot put, 30-4). Gabby Leon was fifth in the long jump (15-3 ½) and triple jump (32-3 ½).

East Union’s Marley Arrizano was second in the (100 (12.53) and 200 (27.02) as was the 4x100 relay (51.53). Kadence Rossi (shot put, 30-7), Kymoni Beasley (high jump, 4-7), Ava Berrera (triple jump, 33-1) and the 4x800 relay (10:58.50) all finished third and the 4x400 relay (4:47.56) was fourth.

In frosh-soph boys action, Sierra’s Jordan Murrieta (800, 2:15.56), Jayden Everett (high jump, 5 feet, 6 inches) and East Union’s Sebastian Thomas (200, 23.64) finished first. For the East Union girls Amirah Harrington (shot put, 25-9 ½) and Katelyn Partney (discus, 75-1) finished first.
