Sierra freshman continue to roll

SONORA – The Sierra High freshman girls basketball team remained unblemished during the Valley Oak League season, handling the Sonora Wildcats Friday in league play 44-38.

Kendelle Messersmith led the Timberwolves with 19 points and five steals.

Sierra (4-0 VOL, 14-2 overall) will try to remain perfect Wednesday when it travels to Manteca.

Manteca 44, Kimball 27

The Buffaloes had an easy time with the Jaguars, getting double-doubles from Aryana Martinez and Leah Manuleleua. Martinez had 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Manuleleua followed suit with 10 points and 10 boards.

Sophomores

Weston Ranch 53, Oakdale 29

The Cougars raced to the win over Oakdale, outscoring the Mustangs 21-5 in the third quarter to pull away. Crystal Hernandez led the Cougars with 23, while Kelly Laughlin had 11.

Kimball 50, Manteca 35

The Buffaloes were able to keep things close, but could not close a double-digit gap. Fechi Nkwocha was the only Buffalo in double figures with 10.
