The Sierra High girls golf squad put together one of its top efforts of the season Wednesday against Weston Ranch.

“We beat our previous best score by 15 strokes,” said coach Jack Thomson following the Timberwolves’ 273-328 Valley Oak League win at the Manteca Park Golf Course.

Paving the way were Elia Vasquez and Lexus Barnes, who shared medalist honors with 52s in the par 37 front nine.

Brianne Leconi (54) finished two strokes back with Melanie Kiesel and Tora Hohn both carding 57s.

The Timberwolves (2-3) will take on Manteca on Tuesday.

Girls tennis

Kimball 7, East Union 2

The Lancers lost at Kimball during last Tuesday’s VOL match.

Their points came from No. 4 singles player Brooke Niendorf, who defeated Haily Agulay in two hard-fought sets (7-6, 6-1), and No. 5 singles Jocylin Maza, who got past Perliza Delgado in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).

The Lancers will face the Buffaloes today at the Manteca High tennis courts.

Volleyball

Manteca 3, Downey 0

The Buffaloes overcame errors and some shakiness in the non-league affair at Downey.

They took care of the Knights in three games last Tuesday (25-19, 25-12, 25-20).

“Downey was definitely better than I anticipated,” said Manteca coach Tim Horning.

Jimi Guibor helped lead the way, collecting six kills and three blocks. Nicole Magnuson had eight digs while Sammy Morris delivered four aces coupled with her 11 assists.

In addition, Brittina Burch came through with six kills and Myklyn Balmut managed three blocks.

Manteca will host East Union today in the VOL opener.
