TENNIS: Manteca drops semifinal to 2nd-seeded Placer

Two third-set tiebreakers proved to be the difference in Manteca’s 6-3 loss to No. 2 seed Placer in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV team tennis playoffs Tuesday.

Placer will take on No. 4 Los Banos in the title round Friday morning at University of the Pacific. Los Banos upset top-seeded Pioneer in the other semifinal.

Manteca earned its three points in singles. No. 2 player Shreya Raman swept Anael Silva 6-2, 6-0, and Christina Nguyen took care of Kylie Bowman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Freshman Paisley Coenenberg took the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-1 against Natalia Moreno.

Valley Oak League singles champion Emma Ngo dropped the No. 1 singles match to Foothill Valley League titlist Ava Doak, 3-6, 6-7 (5). No. 4 Michailla Springs came up shorts against Alexis Bulger 4-6, 7-5, 4-10, and No. 5 Parm Toor was downed by Sylvia Sorber, 4-6, 6-2, 6-10.

Placer dominated the three doubles matches, dropping only eight games in three matches.

Despite the defeat, the Buffaloes gained valuable postseason experience and are only losing one player to graduation.
