STOCKTON — Weston Ranch did not need extra innings this time.
The Cougars rode the arm of Rylan Tinsley and got the run they needed in the bottom of the sixth to upend Central Catholic 1-0 on Tuesday.
It’s the second straight week Weston Ranch (2-5, 7-8-2 overall) opened a two-game set with a win after dropping four in a row to begin league play. Last week, the Cougars beat East Union 7-4 in nine innings.
“All-around team effort,” Weston Ranch coach David Hager said. “We took care of the baseball, had good, quality at-bats and put the ball in play. Central Catholic played a great game. Their pitcher, (Alex) Escobar, pounds the zone and works quick, but our guys battled.”
Carlos Drain singled to start the sixth inning. Austin Cappas worked the count to 2-1 before lacing double to deep center on a hit-and-run to plate Drain.
Tinsley finished with nine strikeouts and a walk in 6 2/3 innings. Gabriel Melgar induced a grounder for the final out and the save. Anthony Aguilar played at catcher for the first time.
Tinsley worked out of a one-out jam in the third with back-to-back strikeouts as the Raiders (3-3, 9-8) left a runner stranded on third. Central Catholic threatened again in the seventh with two runners on base. Tinsley got another big strikeout before Melgar replaced him on the mound.
“Rylan didn’t necessarily have his best stuff but he just went with a bulldog mentality and used his secondary pitches the best he could,” Hager said. “I’m proud of the way Rylan competed today.”

Oakdale 18, Lathrop 3
LATHROP — The Mustangs (5-2, 10-9) doled out 21 hits and exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Dylan Wright led the barrage, going 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Corey Hinojosa went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Jacob Solorio also went 3 for 5, plating three runs and driving in a pair.
Four Oakdale pitchers combined for a five-hitter.
Colin Weis accounted for two of those hits for Lathrop (0-7, 6-9-1) and had two RBIs. Jacob Eijansantos drove in the Spartans’ other run. Oakdale led 9-0 before Lathrop did all of its scoring in the fourth inning.

Ripon 1
RIPON — Modesto Christian (2-2, 11-6) got a strong pitching effort from Calvin Pless, who struck out two and walked three in a four-hitter. The Crusaders never trailed after taking a one-run lead in the first.
Jake Komatsu knocked in Carson Henry to score the lone run for Ripon (1-3, 10-5), which has dropped three straight. John Eicher took the loss after striking out six over 3 2/3 innings. He also allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. Komatsu pitched the final 3 ½ innings.

Ripon Christian 10, Delhi 0 (5)
DELHI — The Knights (5-2, 8-6-1) won their fourth consecutive contest with another sterling pitching effort by Jadon Vander Molen. He faced just one batter over the minimum, issuing a walk to go with eight strikeouts in the mercy-shortened no-hitter.
Vander Molen also went 2 for 3 with two runs and a RBI at the plate. Nolan Lingley was 2 for 3 with a run, while Caleb Terpsma and Drake Nelson drove in two runs each. Willem Hoekstra and Declan Van Vuren added a double apiece.
